Winter is Here (and it's trying to kill us)

Considering the fact that Ann Arbor's windchill has dropped back down to -20 degrees today, I spent my morning attempting to craft the warmest outfit possible without sacrificing comfort or style. I ended up in a thick fisherman's sweater from Old Navy, olive green chinos from Gap, and a hand knit scarf. (Currently I'm still pretty warm and only a little uncomfortable) But then there's the question of what to wear tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that. So below is my ideal outfit (meaning if I had the money for some classy Isabel Marant and Rag & Bone) for the duration of this absurd weather.

Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture

I've fallen hard for the Christian Dior Spring 2014 Couture Collection. There's a level of playfulness in the volume and texture of the pieces that's just so fun and yet it's balanced incredibly well with the classic Dior ladylike image. Subtle cutouts, flaps, tiers, and layers are seen throughout the collection with minimal hair, makeup, and accessorizing putting the delicate/elaborate clothes at center stage.

I could definitely see my girl J. Lawr rocking any one of these modern, femme gowns on the red carpet any day now.

Peter Pilotto x Target 2014

Peter Pilotto's collaboration collection with Target is all bright colors and clashing patterns, perfect for spring and summer. The majority of the collection is made up of skirts and dresses, with a clear influence from surf-wear in line, color, and fabric. But, there's also the occasional blazer and flowy cover-up as well. I'm dying to get my hands on a couple of the swim suits and I'm definitely feeling the mixed pattern trend. You'll see me angrily typing away at my computer trying to purchase anything I can get when the collection is released on February 9.

Golden Globes 2014

I love the Golden Globes because I get to see all my favorite movie people and TV people dressing up and being awesome all in one place. While I was let down by Jennifer Lawrence's weird Ariel-wearing-a-sail outfit, she did make a great photobomb, and Tina/Amy's wonderfulness blinded me from any truly awful styling choices.

Here are my top 5 looks from the night:

Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren
Probably my favorite look of the night, Lupita absolutely killed it in Ralph Lauren. The color, the cape, the minimalistic styling. I gasped when I saw it.

Olivia Wilde in Gucci Premiere
It's no secret that I idealize Olivia Wilde in every way; her hair, her style, her interpretive dance skills, her choice of husband (the ever so lucky Jason Sudekis). This dress, which, I might add, perfectly hugs her baby bump, is just another part of Olivia Wilde for me to idealize.

Elizabeth Moss in J. Mendel
During the show I genuinely just continually repeated how much I loved Elizabeth Moss's dress. The color, the texture, it's all perfect. AND! She won best actress in a mini-series for her phenomenal show, Top of the Lake, and accepted her award in the most adorable way.

Cate Blanchett in Armani
Ever since I saw her in Givenchy Couture at the 2011 Oscars, I've admired Cate Blanchett's bold red carpet style. This Armani gown did not disappoint, with just the right amount of sheer and a high neck/low back combo, Cate looked as amazing as ever.

Finally, Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
These two are just the best friends in the whole world and I desperately wish they would let me be best friends with them too. They also looked absolutely amazing in every one of their three gowns (and the one suit that Amy whipped out), but these two were my absolute favorite.

Miroslava Duma

I've always loved her, but lately I've been really inspired by the style of former Harper's Bazaar Russia editor and current freelancer, Miroslava Duma. She's simply adorable in everything she wears and for someone so tiny she pulls off volumos clothes exquisitely. I also appreciate how playful and versatile her style can be.

Feast your eyes:

Happy New Year!

Just a quick post to wish the world a Happy New Year and to share this fantastic quote. I think all of these things, magic, dreams, good madness, should be in everyone's lives and for that reason these are my resolutions this year!
